The V Building, Birmingham

The 50-storey V Building is designed to be the tallest residential tower in Birmingham. The concept design by Eric Coombes will create a skyline identity for the city. At 150 metres tall, the building is located at the heart of Arena Central, a 213,675 sq m (2.3m sq ft) mixed use regeneration project. The tower will, consists of over 600 apartments from studios to three bedroom flats, a spa, residents’ library, private reception rooms and an exclusive club room. There will also be an observation deck and sky bar on the top floor with a grand lobby reception, restaurant, cafe, and lounge on the ground floor and first floors that will be open to the public. Appointed by the developer Dandara to provide expert advice on the sophisticated building envelope design and achieve planning permission for the tower. The name of the building derives from the elongated “V” that will be built into the external elevations and the scissor-like roof that will slice the skyline. The development forms the gateway to Birmingham’s Arena masterplan, and will help rejuvenate this area of the city centre.
